In addition, the sports broadcasting legend has managed to win seven Sports Emmy Awards for Outstanding Sports Personality, Studio Host.

Aforementioned, Ernie and his wife Cheryl Johnson tied the knot back in the early ’80s and have been together for more than four decades. The couple welcomed their two children together within the first decade of their marriage. Eric Johnson and Maggie Johnson are the biological children of the Johnson couple.
Even after being born to a famous family, Ernie Johnson and his family have successfully stayed apart from the limelight of media. Johnson’s family has proved themselves to be people of privacy.
His Son Is A Married Man
While there is very little known about Ernie’s kids, it is a known fact that his son is a married man. Eric Johnson married Quynh Truong in 2012 and has two lovely kids.
Eric and Quynh welcomed their first kid, Ernest Everett Johnson in July 2016. The couple was over the moon with the arrival of their first kid. Three years later, the couple welcomed their second child, Bennett Quynh Johnson to their family.

Maggie Johnson Is A Teacher
As for Cheryl and Ernie Johnson Jr.’s daughter, Maggie married Dustin Pruitt in 2012 and now goes by Maggie Pruitt. It must have been one of the happiest days for Ernie and Cheryl.
Well, Maggie and her husband welcomed their first child, Katie Ann Pruitt, in May 2015. Little Katie is also the first grandchild of Ernie and Cheryl Johnson. The Pruitt couple then welcomed their second child, Amy Pruitt Johnson, in 2017.
Maggie is a teacher at Buford City School for pre-K students. She invited her famous dad, Ernie to read to her class in December 2019.
Ernie’s daughter must have been very devoted to her work as she won the title “Teacher of the Year” in 2019-20. We wish her all the best for her future and hope she continues to find success in her career.

Adopted Four Kids
Every child deserves a home, and every parent is home for a child. So, Ernie and his wife Cheryl were more than generous when they decided to become a loving home for four other children.
Apart from their two biological children, the Johnson couple welcomed four other kids. Michael Johnson, Carmen Johnson, Ashley Johnson, and Allison Johnson were adopted from different orphanages and foster care centers.
Back in the early ’90s, when the Johnson couple had only two children, Cheryl suggested the adoption of their first adoptee, Michael, who needed special care because of the fatal disease Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
As for their daughter, Carmen Johnson was adopted from Paraguay, while Ashley and Allison were adopted domestically from foster care.
Although all of Ernie Johnson Jr.’s children have been staying away from the limelight of media, they must have grown to be amazing adults and must be leading blissful lives.
Sadly Lost One Child
Michael Johnson was adopted in 1991 from the Romanian orphanage at the age of 3. Cheryl tracked down Michael through a television report. She presented the idea of adoption to Ernie, even after a nurse taking care of Michael in that orphanage suggested not to adopt him.
According to the sportscaster, Michael was very fond of cars, and he could remember almost anyone’s car and model once he met the people. Furthermore, he was involved in many outdoor activities even though he used a wheelchair.
After diagnosing a fatal disease, Michael needed 24 hrs of nursing and ventilation, so the couple hired a nurse to take care of him. And Michael thrived; he lived more than 30 years of his dream life.
Even after the continuous effort of the whole family, Ernie Johnson’s son sadly passed away at the age of 33, leaving his family in deep grief. Nonetheless, the Johnson family is keeping Michael alive through their actions.
Ernie Johnson And His Wife, Are Loving Grandparents
Not only parents, but Ernie Johnson and his wife, Cheryl Johnson, are loving grandparents. After raising their six children successfully, they are now pouring their love into their grandchildren too. Ernie shares many photos of him playing with his grandkids, and the little ones seem to be fond of their grandfather.

Moreover, the family is very protective and supportive of each other. So, even with the sports broadcaster being in the limelight Ernie Jr.’s family has managed to remain in the shadows.
A Shared Love
Cheryl and Ernie Johnson Jr.’s children are very lucky to find such great parents.
