He married Melanie Griffith two different times, each leading to divorce. It wasn’t until 1999 when he married Kelley Phleger that he seemed to find his “partner for life”, as the two have remained married since, and have three children together.

Thanks to his time spent on the water while shooting scenes of Miami Vice, only a year into the show he entered a 1,100-mile powerboat race and took the top title. The race began in New Orleans and followed the Mississippi River to St Louis. He then went on to win the Offshore World Cup in 1988 and even work with a company to design a power boat.
