Charli D’Amelio and her boyfriend Landon Barker broke up in February 2024 after winning season 31 of “Dancing With the Stars.
A new music single titled “Over You,” about heartbreak and healing, was released by Barker a little over a month after the announcement, as reported by ET on March 21.
“I can’t move on, I miss you now that you’re gone, but I’ll get over you,” the lyrics read.
In a press release obtained by the outlet, Barker explained the meaning of the song.
“Some people you will never get over until the day you die. ‘Over You’ is a break up song that relates to me personally, and I hope it resonates with you too,” he said.
Fans Not Happy with Landon Barker’s Latest Song and Music Video
In the music video for his song “Over You,” Barker chose Tara Thompson (also known as Tarayummy), a famous content creator on YouTube and TikTok, to portray the woman he sings about in the song. Several fans speculate that Thompson’s character is meant to represent D’Amelio in the video.
However, many fans criticized Barker for putting Thompson in the video — and others were upset that he even released the song. Many fans took to the comments section on Barker’s Instagram post about the track to share their thoughts.
“I read a message where someone wrote, ‘Charli is much better off without you’.”
“If you have to write a song about being over someone then you aren’t actually over them,” someone else added.
One comment pointed out that @tarayummyy should not have gotten involved with the “hot mess” in the music video, as it would only cause chaos.
“I can’t believe TARA didn’t see that coming. I wonder how Charli is feeling now,” a fourth user commented on Instagram.

Landon Barker stated that he and Charli D’Amelio are still friends
Charli D’Amelio and Cody Barker sparked rumors of a romantic relationship in mid-2022 and later officially disclosed it on social media a few weeks later. The couple appeared to be deeply in love, which is why their separation came as a surprise to many of their fans.

She also expressed her feelings of naivety and stupidity for not seeing the signs of their relationship troubles earlier. Despite this, she doesn’t think that she was at fault for what happened. D’Amelio acknowledged that she’s not perfect and often ends up apologizing and feeling guilty in these situations.
The two were able to reconcile but eventually decided to part ways.
