The duo’s first encounter occurred after an accident in practice, where she screwed up her right ankle and began playing with her left foot. Their relationship started after she graduated college.

It has been over three decades since the duo tied the knot. Finally, on June 8, 2006, Brandi Chastain’s baby boy, Jaden Chastain Smith, arrived.

Brandi Chastain’s husband also has another child from a previous relationship. Jaden Smith’s half-brother, Cameron, works as an Assistant Director of Annual Giving at Santa Clara.

Brandi Chastain’s Son Was Diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease

On December 31, 2015, Brandi found out that her son suffers from Crohn’s disease. It is an inflammatory bowel disease causing chronic inflammation of the GI tract, extending from the stomach to the anus.

Jaden Smith’s mom shared the year-long struggle to educate others about the disease affecting roughly 1.6 million Americans. She made an educational video with AbbVie, a global pharmaceutical company.

Jaden Smith’s dad recalled that he could not hold his food down and was losing weight. Likewise, his mom reminisced about his struggles during his third-grade year, and they knew little about it then.

Brandi Chastain’s husband said Jaden did not want to go to baseball and soccer practice. And, because he went to the bathroom so much, his teachers thought he was trying to skip work.

As Chastain knew more about it, she could relate to what Jaden told her. He underwent a colonoscopy so that doctors could know about the problem.

There were scary times, too, like when Brandi Chastain’s baby boy struggled to come out of anesthesia.

Has Returned to His Active Self Since the Diagnosis

After Brandi Chastain’s kid learned about the disease, he came back to his active self. As of 2016, he weighed 81 pounds.

Jaden started going to baseball camp and finished it in July 2016. He went through Santa Clara‘s all-sports camp in the summer of that year and also participated in soccer and swimming.

Brandi Chastain’s son took nine tablets daily of anti-inflammatory medication. Although his medication was successful, his dad revealed that he might need a stronger treatment called biologics.

They are antibodies grown in the laboratory that stop some proteins from causing inflammation.

Likewise, Jaden Smith’s mom coached him. While talking about the experience, she revealed that it was not always easy or intuitive to separate her coaching and parent roles.

Chastain further added that she also had difficulty communicating with boys in such a way that helped them as someone who is compassionate and in charge.

All in all, Brandi Chastain’s kid must be focusing on his schoolwork. It’ll be fun to see if he will follow in his parents’ footsteps.
