For a long time, there hadn’t been many music biopics at all. But the runaway successes of Rocket Man and Bohemian Rhapsody obviously meant that Hollywood may have hit on a winning formula. As a result, 2022 is likely to see many more movies dissecting the lives of some of the biggest names in the music firmament, hopefully showing warts and all.
Elvis rocks again
One of the most hotly anticipated is the Elvis movie. The world might have moved on since the King was the ruler of the Vegas residency. For example, the place where many keen players head for today is online instead of to The Strip. And who can blame them when there are the sorts of online casino offers and reviews that you’ll find at casino comparison sites like Bonus.ca? However good the modern casino industry is, fans still have a special place in their hearts for Elvis’ viva las Vegas.
Just as the leading casinos are made up of a list of winning ingredients, it looks like this movie has been too. For a start, the director is Baz Luhrmann, and if he can bring even half the glitz of movies like Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby to this one we’re in for a treat. Then there’s the cast – Austin Butler plays Presley with Tom Hanks acts very much against type as his controlling and manipulative manager Colonel Tom Parker
A Faithfull Retelling?
One of the first places to break the story that there is a Marianne Faithfull biopic in the works was Vogue.co.uk. Starring Lucy Boynton, last seen in Bohemian Rhapsody, in the title role, it promises to be a must for all fans of the Swinging 60s. For those who have never heard of Faithfull, she was first a model and an actress who really rose to fame by dating Mick Jagger.
In a long and often turbulent life, she’s gone on to have a very successful musical career of her own. Director Ian Bonhote has been quoted as saying that it has been Faithfull’s determination to succeed as a single female artist in a male-dominated industry that’s attracted him to the project.
No release date has been announced for the movie, but filming started in Fall of last year in various locations around the UK.
It’s going to be a Whitney Christmas
It’s going to be a great holiday season for fans of Whitney Houston. That’s because, according to Thewrap.com, the film covering her life story is set to have a theater release on December 23 of this year. Naomi Ackee is in the title role and the whole movie has the full approval of the Houston family. This is why the soundtrack will be using original songs, as sung by Whitney, rather than trying to use sound-alikes.
So, with plenty more titles in the pipeline including rumors of a Madonna movie written by, directed, and starring Madge herself, music lovers and celebrity watchers certainly have plenty to look forward to in 2022.
