Shamir Bailey, a singer, and songwriter from Las Vegas, Nevada, was born on November 7, 1994. His first EP, Northtown, was released in June 2014 to resounding praise. Moreover, in November 2014, after signing with XL Recordings, he released the song On the Regular. His debut studio album Ratchet was released in the United States on May 19, 2015.
Since then, Bailey has released seven independent studio albums, which have helped him establish himself in the industry. So without any further do, let’s jump in and learn more about Shamir Bailey and his story of a non-binary singer with a loud and banging comeback in the music industry.
Recorded Track For His Debut EP During High School
Shamir was born and raised in North Las Vegas. Despite being raised a Muslim, he views religion as less of a priority than spirituality. Moreover, Shamir, who identifies as non-binary, said in an interview in 2015 that he doesn’t identify as gay. He is at ease using masculine pronouns, despite the fact that he does not have a favorite pronoun.
Shamir and his mother shared a home with his aunt, who worked in the music industry. Guests to the family’s home included bassists and producers who assisted his aunt with her musical endeavors. This made Shamir known to a wide variety of music, including R&B, hip-hop, Groove Theory, and Outkast. Furthermore, Shamir received an Epiphone guitar when he was nine and began writing music.
When he was 16 years old, Shamir and a friend formed a punk band. But it disbanded soon after their debut performance when his bandmate froze on stage. However, that didn’t stop Shamir, who recorded tracks for his debut EP while still in high school. After graduating, he sent a demo tape to the Godmode label, and eventually, he was signed to the record label by Nick Sylvester, its founder.
Almost Called It Quits In The Music
Godmode released Shamir’s debut EP in June 2014. It is titled Northtown, after the neighborhood where he grew up. In July 2014, the EP’s opening track, If It Wasn’t True, was chosen as one of Flavorwire’s “25 Best Songs of 2014 So Far.” The star was also mentioned in “New Music To Know: Best of 2014, So Far” by Radio.com. He released the track On the Regular in October 2014 after joining XL Recordings, and it was later included in an Android Wear ad in 2015.

From his debut album, Ratchet, which was released on May 19, 2015, Bailey released Call It Off as a single in March 2015. Hope, Shamir’s follow-up album, was released on April 17, 2017. Moreover, Shamir split from his management group after the release of Hope and thought about calling it quits in the music industry. After a psychotic episode, he spent time in a mental facility, where he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He returned to Las Vegas, where he spent two weeks writing and recording most of his third album, Revelations.
