Gerald Cotten was the founder of QuadrigaCX, once Canada’s largest cryptocurrency exchange. Everything was going well until the press released the news of his death. Gerald’s death came as a shock and sparked an outpouring of grief. But what people did not expect was for the crypto legend to die with the only password to millions of dollars worth of digital assets.
Gerald’s wife came under fire from the media after she claimed that she did not have the password and recovery key to access the information on Cotten’s laptop. However, the celebrity wife has vanished from the spotlight after agreeing to repay the clients for what they have lost.
So, in this article, let us learn about Gerald Cotten’s wife, Jennifer Kathleen Margaret Robertson. Let us also find out about the whereabouts of the famous QuadrigaCX founder’s widow.
Best Known As Gerald Cotten’s Wife
We can all agree that the cryptocurrency fiasco involving Jennifer Robertson‘s deceased husband thrust her into the spotlight out of nowhere. Therefore it is no surprise that people best know Jennifer as Gerald Cotten’s wife.
The two first met in November 2014 and had been together for some time before tying the knot in October 2018. Gerald and Jennifer kept most of their relationship away from the public. Likewise, the public was not much intrigued about their lives up until Gerald’s name got tainted by him being a fraud. Consequently, the public knows little about the relationship between the now-dead Gerald and his widow.
Nonetheless, given that the two had been together for years, we can assume that they had a great relationship.

Jennifer Robertson’s Husband Died On Their Honeymoon
As stated above, the couple got married in October 2018. Jennifer Robertson and Gerald Cotten’s wedding took place in Scotland. The pair were then enjoying their honeymoon in Jaipur, India. Unfortunately, the honeymoon was short-lived, and Cotten was declared dead within 24 hours of their arrival in India. According to reports, Jennifer’s husband died of complications with Crohn’s disease on December 9, 2018.
However, his death is much debated upon as Jennifer only notified the press of his passing one month after the incident took place. By this time, the saddened widow had already executed the will, making her the sole owner of Cotten’s financial assets and estates. Conventionally, the former QuadrigaCX founder only wrote the said will a few weeks after the two exchanged wedding vows.
Naturally, people started to question whether the young founder was even dead. Rumors circulated at the time that Robertson’s husband had faked his death and fled with millions of dollars. People then demanded that his body be exhumed to prove he was truly dead.
However, Gerald Cotten’s wife quickly intervened and assured the annoyed investors that exhuming her late husband’s body would not aid in asset recovery. She also mentioned that she was heartbroken by such demands.
However, her denial of the exhumation demands only fueled the rumors. Jennifer also declined CBC’s repeated requests for an interview. So, Cotten’s death remains a mystery to this day.
Cotten’s Death Had The Crypto World In A Frenzy
There is no doubt that Cotten’s death saddened his family and close ones. However, no one could be more shocked than the crypto community when they later found out that Gerald was the only person with the passcodes to customer funds. So naturally, customers started filing lawsuits, following which The Nova Scotia Supreme Court determined that users of the exchange were owed Canadian $260 million, which amounts to approximately US $195 million.
Upon further investigation, it was found that Gerald had no records of any exchange of cryptocurrencies and treated his client’s money as his own. As a result, where the money went is unknown to this date. Many even claim that the businessman used the money from his company for his personal use. However, his wife claimed that she had no idea how the founder handled his finances. She also believed that their assets were bought from their own money.
In April 2019, Robertson voluntarily agreed not to sell or transfer any of her assets. Yet, on October 8, 2019, Gerald Cotten’s wife returned 12 million Canadian dollars to Quadriga from her husband’s estate. Later, she was allowed to keep her wedding band, jeep, personal retirement savings fund, and $90,000 cash.
Has Disappeared From The Limelight
Following the fiasco, Gerald Cotten’s spouse has vanished off the face of the earth. Well, the widow is also not active on any social media platforms, making it nearly impossible to track her current whereabouts. Her mysterious disappearance has caused a commotion in the media.
The reason for her sudden disappearance remains a mystery. However, Jennifer had claimed in her court documents that she had received threats and slanderous comments. So, this could be one of the main reasons contributing to her sudden disappearance.
Regardless, she must be living a comfortable life with what was left of her fortune. Nonetheless, Jennifer has authored a book, Bitcoin Widow Love, Betrayal and the Missing Millions with Stephen Kimber. The book will be on sale on January 18, 2022, so let’s hope that the public will get some clarity surrounding the allegations and rumors surrounding her late husband from her book.
