Fran McCaffery’s Wife Margaret McCaffery – Has Been In The News Quite Sometime

Francis John McCaffery, shortly, Fran McCaffery is a renowned college basketball coach. He is the current head coach of the University of Iowa MBB, Iowa Hawkeyes. He has been serving the team since 2010. In addition, the Pennsylvania native is also a former point guard of Wake Forest Demon Deacons and Penn Quakers.

The talented basketball professional has been active in the league for over four decades. Talking about the former player’s personal life, he leads a beautiful family with his longtime spouse, Margaret McCaffery. She is considered the most knowledgeable and involved partner in the sport. Fran McCaffery’s Wife Is A Former Athlete

Margaret McCaffery is now known as the spouse of Iowa head coach and mother of two rising players. But, she has her own basketball records too. The coach’s partner has been passionate about basketball since she was a little girl. As a result, she was an active basketball player in high school and at the University of Notre Dame. The basketball enthusiast played under the head coach, Muffet McGraw.

However, the Notre Dame graduate was first introduced to basketball by her father when she was in about second grade. Growing up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the beautiful spouse was a total tomboy who would play anything with a ball, including football. Her skills continued to grow, and eventually, she became a top college prospect.

After graduating from college with a bachelor’s degree in government, Fran McCaffery’s wife became a player in the European League and played one season for France. But, patellar tendinitis in her knee forced her to retire. Afterward, Margaret worked at the Legal Assistance Foundation in Chicago and prepared to attend law classes at the University of Minnesota.

But, her coach, McGraw, offered Margaret to join the Notre Dame staff. She then accepted the position of assistant coach. She coached for a year and completed her master’s degree in law from the same university.

Met Through Their Work Circle

As mentioned above, Fran McCaffery’s wife worked as an assistant coach for the Fighting Irish women’s basketball team. That was when she met her future husband. Fran was serving as an assistant coach for Notre Dame’s MBB. The lovely pair’s first dates involved diagramming plays and attending several NBA exhibition games.

Finally, Margaret and Fran tied the knot in 1997 and started a family. The power couple has been together for twenty-five years and is still happily together. As a law student, the head coach’s better half is now a board of directors of the Iowa Legal Aid Foundation.

The pair have come a long way and had their share of ups and downs. In 2006, Fran McCheffery’s wife was ejected from a game against Hofstra. She criticized officials which made big headlines.

Is An Cancer Activist

In 2014, Fran McCaffery’s son, Patrick McCaffery, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. At that time, their beloved son was fourteen years old. As a result, the McCaffery pair were inspired to start charities for adolescents and young adults struggling with cancer at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Between 2013 to 2019, the married duo helped raise $2 million to fight cancer. Eventually, the doting mother joined the board of directors for the American Cancer Society. She was also given St. George Award for her contributions in February 2022.

Is A Doting Mother Of Four

Apart from their flourishing career, the McCaffery pair are blessed with four amazing kids. Margaret and Fran McCaffery’s children are Connor McCaffery, Jonathan McCaffery, Patrick McCaffery, and Marit McCaffery.

After beating the disease, Patrick became the all-time leading scorer in basketball at Iowa City West High School in Iowa City. Moreover, he joined the University of Iowa in 2019. The young athlete was a top 100 recruit for the class of 2019.

Furthermore, Margaret and Fran McCaffery’s other son, Connor, recently graduated from Iowa. He was considered to be a top 100 recruit in the country. The young player also played baseball for the Iowa Hawkeyes baseball team.

Likewise, the lovebirds’ youngest son, Jonathan, is currently attending Iowa City West High School and is one of the rising basketball stars. Finally, Fran McCaffery’s daughter, Marit, lives a private life away from the media.
