Being titled the “Coaching Legend” by the Basketball Hall of Fame, Dean Edwards Smith was a renowned American men’s basketball head coach for college teams. Known more as Dean Smith, he coached for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Starting in 1961, he coached for 36 years and retired from the profession in 1997.

The legendary coach sadly passed away on February 7, 2015, making him 83 when he met his demise. However, before his death, Smith lived a blissful life as a father of his five children.

Sharon, Sandy and Scott are Dean Smith’s children from his first marriage with Ann Cleavinger whom he married in 1954. Likewise, Kristen and Kelly are his daughters with his second wife, Linnea Weblemoe, who was married to the coach until his death.

Kristen Smith Wants The Best For Her Hometown

Kristen Smith, who currently goes by, Kristen Smith Young, is one of Linnea Smith and Dean Smith’s two daughters. After completing high school, she graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dean Smith’s daughter is married to Dylan Smith Young and currently works at UNC Community Relations as a Director. Kristen is also a  board member at Strowd Roses, Inc., UNC School of Ed, and The Carolina Club. She doesn’t seem to have any children of her own.

According to what she had once said for Chapel Hill magazine, Kristen seemed to be a very active person. She has a strong desire to see her hometown thrive. The daughter of the legend wants to make the local government more accessible to her people.

Kelly Has A Medical Degree

Kelly Smith is the other daughter of Dean Smith and Linnea Smith. Being fascinated with medicine and having the desire to care for others from a young age, she always wanted to go to medical school. Kelly attended and received her medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hills.

Combining the fascination and desire to the influence of her mother’s dedicated social work for children, she works as a pediatrician in Chapel Hills with an affiliation to the University of North Carolina Hospitals. The pediatrician has been in practice for 11 to 20 years.

Just like her sister Kristen, Kelly is also married. Additionally, she has welcomed two children with her husband, Adam Jordan Kimple.

Furthermore, Dean’s baby girl doesn’t seem to have any social media account and not much aside from her profession has been made public. We can only assume the daughter of the coach is a person of privacy and wants to stay out of the limelight.

Sharon, Sandy, and Scott Smith Stay Out Of Spotlight

Unlike their half-siblings, the whereabouts of Sharon, Sandy, and Scott are unclear. In 2013, it was reported that Sandy, lived in Salisbury with her husband, Reverend Steve Combs, and their two children. We can’t be sure if they still live there.

Scott, the only son of Dean Smith, was spotted with the former football player, Dré Bly, Charlotte’s Wells Fargo Golf Championship in 2018. Other than that, there has been no new information about Dean Smith’s son.

As for Sharon, she appeared in one of the episodes of the ESPN SportsCentury. Other than that, there is almost no information about Dean Smith’s daughter. All we can do is take it as her being a private person who keeps it to herself.
