The Aussie NBA star, Joe Ingles’s son, Jacob, was diagnosed with autism on Jan 8, 2019. The Utah Jazzshooter and the Melbourne Vixens star kept it as a secret for more than a month. However, both Joe and his wife, Renae, opened up about their confronting family situation. They released an emotional open letter and revealed their son Jacob’s autism diagnosis.
Jacob didn’t communicate and wasn’t showing natural signs of social interaction and development. That’s when there was a feeling in his parents’ gut. They never expected Jacob to be where Milla was. It concerned them a lot, so they talked with the pediatrician about Jacob’s day-to-day behavior, activities, and way of life.
Joe and Renae were positive and agreed to go through the assessment process rather than not doing anything. Surprisingly Jacob’s non-verbal communication improved, and his parents started working on some different techniques to improve his social anxiety. After the pediatrician finished the rest of the session, Jacob’s results showed no improvements. At that moment, they were left feeling empty.
It said in the letter, “Jacob is still our Jacob, always has been, always will be.” He is so fortunate to have such loving and caring parents. Also, Joe’s basketball team, Utah Jazz, planned Autism Awareness Night at Vivint Smart Home Arena in 2019. Probably more than 18,000 fans joined together to celebrate and support the families who have been touched by autism.
Joe also posted a photo of adorable Jacob on World Autism Day on Instagram. He captioned the photo saying, they have had plenty of great days & plenty of rough ones.
