At the Massachusetts Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Mordente made his professional dance debut.

Tony was founded by Michael Kidd, who put him in the Broadway musical adaptation of the Al Capp comic strip Li’l Abner in 1956, shortly after he joined the ballet company at Radio City Music Hall.
