The Plot: A Deep Drama Of Queer Trauma
The romantic fantasy movie premiered at the 50th Telluride Film Festival in August 2023. Similarly, it was released in the United Kingdom on January 26, 2024, and in the United States on December 22, 2024.
The film’s central plot is around Adam, who has an unplanned encounter with intriguing neighbor Harry one night in his mostly deserted London tower block, disrupting the rhythm of his daily life.
As the two’s relationship deepens, Adam is pulled back to his childhood home, where his parents appear to be living exactly as they did on the day they died 30 years ago.

The movie’s plot focuses on a growing relationship between the two primary characters, Harry and Adam. The loner Adam finds the warmth and care of his neighbor Harry, who also reciprocates his feelings.
Throughout the film, they hang out more often, watching television on Adam’s sofa on Friday evenings. At the climax, Adam takes Harry to meet his parents, who were long dead, as mentioned by Adam earlier in the film.
So, Harry is a little concerned about going there but eventually does so. At Adam’s house in Sussex, Harry sees Adam’s dead parents through the window, and he flees from there. However, Adam stays for a final emotional goodbye with his parents.
As Adam returns to Harry’s apartment, which he has never visited, he finds the door open, the television running, and a foul smell coming from the bedroom. As he walks towards the smell, he finds the rotting body of Harry with a bottle of whiskey beside him.
Adam realizes that Harry died on the day of their first meeting. He sees Harry’s spirit crying and remembering that he died all alone with no one knowing. The pair returned to Adam’s apartment and lay down on their sides.
Harry requests Adam to put on a song, and Frankie Goes to Hollywood‘s The Power of Love starts ringing in the background.
A brilliant light appears, and we see images of what appear to be bright lights or stars in the sky before one light becomes blinding and cuts to the credits while the song plays.

The British movie was released to positive reviews from the public and critics. National Board of Review named it one of the top ten independent films of 2023. Further, it also received six BAFTA nominations and one nominee spot at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards.
