Jones has lived in Marianna, Pennsylvania, since 2018. On April 16, 2022, he announced that he had previously had two strokes and was diagnosed with dementia. A month later, he reported he was diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer.
His longtime friend and ex-referee, Mark Charles III, announced the late wrestler’s death. He mentioned that Virgil died peacefully at the hospital on the morning of February 28, 2024.
