In 1978, the late journalist received the National Headliner Award for Investigative Reporting in all categories. In 1999, he created a film called The Unreal Story of Professional Wrestling.

Mortensen began reporting for ESPN in 1991 and has since worked on the network’s Emmy Award-winning programs NFL GameDay/NFL Countdown/Sunday NFL Countdown and Outside the Lines.

The American national worked as an analyst for ESPN at the NFL Draft. He left the network in April 2023, after the 2023 NFL draft.

The legendary journalist announced on January 15, 2016, that he was diagnosed with stage IV throat cancer via an ESPN statement. He took a leave of absence from his on-air work to spend more time with his wife, Micki and their son Alex Mortensen.

Mortensen fought cancer for the last eight years and passed away on March 3, 2024, at the age of seventy-two. However, the exact cause of his death is still not provided by his family and ESPN. But, we lost a great figure.
