Austin Was Born Prematurely

The former ice hockey player shares a blissful marital life with Nathalie Asselin. The couple walked down the aisle on June 26, 1993, and it has already been over two decades since Austin’s parents got married.

Three years after their marriage, on March 24, 1996, Mario’s wife gave birth to their only son. Mario Lemieux’s little boy Austin Nicholas Lemieux was born three months premature. He only weighed two pounds and five ounces at the time of his birth.

After the birth, he apparently spent 71 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Gladly, both Austin and Nathalie were out of harm and now are living a wonderful life.

Has Three Siblings

As stated above, Austin Nicholas Lemieux’s dad and mom have been married for many years now. In all these years of marital life, the duo gave birth to four kids, and Austin is one of them. He has three sisters, two of whom are older than him, and one is younger.

Austin Nicholas Lemieux’s eldest sister is Lauren Lemieux, who was born in April 1993. Then, his second elder sister, Stephanie Lemieux, arrived in 1995. A year after his birth, Austin’s parents gave birth to his younger sister Alexa Lemieux.

The Lemieux siblings have been living a great life. Austin and his sisters grew up together in the affluent Pittsburgh suburb of Sewickley.

Mario Lemieux’s Son Followed In His Footsteps

Any children of sports personalities following in their footsteps is not a new thing. In fact, they get interested in sports from a young age and later pursue it as their career. Likewise, Mario Lemieux’s kid also followed in his footsteps.

Austin began playing ice hockey in 2011 with Pittsburgh Predators. From the 2011 season to the 2014 season, he played with the Predators. Then, in the 2015 season, he played for the Omaha Lancers.

In the 2016 season, Austin played for the Islanders Hockey Club, and the following season, he joined Arizona State University. He played with the Sundevils for three seasons before retiring in September 2020.

Austin had redshirted in the first season with the Sundevils, and in the latter two seasons, he scored seven goals and 20 assists. He had retired from hockey to pursue a career in golf professionally. He then played golf at the amateur level in Pennsylvania.

Is Involved In Charities

Austin Lemieux’s dad and mom have been working through The Mario Lemieux Foundation. Like them, he is involved in charities too.

As mentioned earlier, Austin had spent 71 days in NICU after he was born. While taking care of him, his parents realized that his elder sisters, who were still toddlers at that time, had no means to engage themselves. Upon realizing that, his mom and dad created Austin’s Playrooms Projects.

These are the rooms for young hospital visitors who can spend their time there while their parents focus on healing the health-related complications. Austin is grown up and healthy now, and he continues to work on his namesake playrooms. These playrooms give children a home away from home during hard times.
