Beloved actor Jack Axelrod passed away due to natural causes. He played mob boss Victor Jerome on General Hospital and played Charlie Yost on Grey’s Anatomy.

Axelrod is one of the actors whom we lost in 2023. A man with a passion for acting, he appeared in My Name is Earl.

Jack Axelrod Acting

Born on January 25, 1930, Jack Axelrod grew up in Los Angeles, California. He began acting while studying architecture at the University of California, Berkley. Previously, Axelrod served in the Korean War and as a U.S. Corporal stationed in Germany from 1953 until 1955.

While working as an architect in Washington, Jack began to study acting. Further, he studied acting for six years under Uta Hagen at HB Studios in New York City.

Jack Axelrod landed roles in Broadway shows and motion pictures that elevated his acting career.

During his career, Axelrod worked onstage on Broadway and off-Broadway and in theaters from Maine to San Diego.

Television Career

Jack Axelrod has numerous credits in film and television. He appeared as Victor Gerome in General Hospital for three years. Likewise, he also appeared in numerous sitcoms and dramas, including Grey’s Anatomy as Charlie Yost, an elderly patient,  and My Name is Earl.

Axelrod appeared in numerous movies such as Hancock (2008), Little Flockers (2010), Super 8 (2011), and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Besides GH and Grey’s Anatomy, Jack had guest roles on Shameless, The Office, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, etc. Well, another prominent actor who died in 2023 is Andre Braugher.

Jack Axelrod Passed Away

Jack Axelrod passed away on November 28 of natural causes in Los Angeles. His representative, Jennifer Garland, confirmed the news to Entertainment Weekly.

Although he is no more, Axelrod left a lasting legacy behind. In addition to his prolific film and television career, Axelrod landed several roles in Off-Broadway and Broadway shows. He appeared as Banquo in a 1969 production of Macbeth. Jack worked as a guest teacher at Aaron Speiser Acting Studio.

In his later years, Jack kept his passion for acting alive by teaching at several universities. Over the years, he taught acting at Penn State, Temple University, CalState Northridge & Bakersfield, and CalArts. Likewise, he also served as a guest teacher at the Speiser/Sturges Acting Studio in Los Angeles.
