Bella Hadid and Gigi Hadid are no new names in the modeling industry. It’s rare that a magazine or a runway show does not feature one of the sisters. The Hadid sisters are among the models that are paid massively. Similar to them, Paloma Elsesser and Ama Elsesser are two sisters who have ventured into the modeling world.
Both Paloma and Ama have brought their agenda of body positivity and are advocating for their change. With their growing popularity, fans wonder if they are the next Bella Hadid and Gigi Hadid in the modeling scene. So, let’s get to know more about the sisters and their journey so far.
Born into a Multi-Ethnic Family
Paloma was born Paloma Kai Shockley Elsesser in Camden, London, England, on April 12, 1992. Likewise, Ama was born Amaterasu Eliana Oshun Elsesser on May 1, 2000, in California. The sisters were welcomed by their dad, Ben Elsesser, and their mom Anedra Shockley Elsesser. Furthermore, they have a sister, Kanyessa Elsesser McMahon, and a brother, Sage Elsesser.
The Elsesser sisters grew up in a multi-ethnic family. Their dad is a Chilean-Swiss immigrant, and their mom is an African-American Buddhist. Their father comes from a family of socialists who fled Chile during the 1973 military coup by General Augusto Pinochet
Paloma’s Journey is Inspirational
For Bella and Gigi, modeling has always been in their genes, as their mother, Yolanda Hadid, is a former Dutch-American model. Gigi started her modeling career at 2 and starred in several campaigns for Baby Guess. In 2013, she returned to modeling and signed with IMG Models.
It is the same modeling agency that Paloma signed after getting discovered by Pat McGrath, a legendary makeup artist, in 2015. In February 2018, IMG Models Worldwide shared her photo, saying they now represented her.
Ama Elsesser’s sister, Paloma, was picked by McGrath as a face for Gold 001, the inaugural product of the Pat McGrath Kabs beauty line. As a result, she got her big break then and has modeled for brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Fenty Beauty, Nike, and Proenza Schouler.
The elder Elsesser sister has also been featured in numerous fashion magazines, including Elle, W, Teen Vogue, Glamour, and others. Although not a household name yet, Paloma has caught experts’ attention and gained immense fans and followers.
Paloma Elsesser’s Sister is Following in Her Footsteps
While Gigi has been professionally modeling since 2013, Bella entered the industry at 16. Over the years, the Hadid sisters have worked relentlessly and have established themselves as top models. Both are signed to IMG Models, and many people look up to them.
Like the Hadid sisters, the Elsesser siblings are also in the industry. Paloma usually makes it a point to spotlight other activists who are also working for change as she continues to promote inclusivity and body diversity in the fashion business. And now it’s Paloma Elsesser‘s sister following in her footsteps.
Ama, a non-binary, uses they/them pronoun and has been signed with IMG Models. She got their big break after appearing as one of the cool LA skate girls in 2017 in the Mid-90s, the directorial debut of Jonah Hill. They have been the face of Fenty, Ugg, and Calvin Klein ever since. Let’s hope they continue achieving success in their professional venture.
Are The Elsesser Sisters Next Hadid Sisters?
The Hadid sisters have redefined the modeling world, and as mentioned earlier, almost every runway shows or shoots have one of them featured. So looking at Paloma and Ama’s journey, people can’t help but wonder if they are following the path of the Hadid sisters.
Like Bella and Gigi, fashion genes run strong in Ama and Paloma’s family. Not only them but their mother, too, appears in a few of the shoots. So, it is no wonder the girls are on the verge of making their names in the modeling industry. Although Ama and Paloma are yet to reach the level of the Hadid sisters, they are putting in their 100% effort.
Furthermore, the sisters have been using their platform for change. They believe advocacy is part of their DNA and bring it into their work. For example, starring in a UGG campaign together, Paloma Elsesser’s sister and other family members support her as a body-positive activist.
