What Is Netflix’s Below Zero Movie All About?

Netflix's Below Zero Movie

Netflix has been releasing foreign-language films for quite some time now, and you can’t really tell which will land on the Top 10 that are worth watching. One of the long-running Netflix Top 10 is Below Zero, a Spanish action thriller film directed by Lluís Quílez released in 2021. If you’ve seen this title on your Netflix home screen, then you’ve probably asked yourself, “What is this all about?”.

So, in this post, we’ll talk about the plot of this movie and our verdict on whether it’s worth your time or not. Also, since this is a Netflix exclusive, you will not find it on other streaming apps, even on Spanish-dedicated TV like Go Latino TV. But who knows? Maybe it will be available on other streaming platforms soon enough. So, let’s get started!

Below Zero Plot

Below Zero follows a group of police officers who are transporting a group of prisoners from one prison to another. The officers, Martín (Javier Gutiérrez) and Montesino (Isak Férriz) are tasked with a seemingly simple job, but little do they know that their night is about to take a drastic turn. Martín is behind the wheel responsible for driving the armored prisoner transport vehicle, while his partner Montesino will be inside with the prisoners.

The transport vehicle follows a police car containing two more police officers, which serves as their convoy while transporting the prisoners to their destination. As they went on with their trip, they reached a remote region where the roads suddenly got thick and filled with fog. Once they went past a deer crossing warning sign, a mysterious man appeared as if he was watching the truck and then placed a spike strip at the road.

Shortly after, a car suddenly appeared behind the transport vehicle and went past them and the police car in front of them. Martín was a bit worried because it was slightly weird for a car to suddenly appear and overtake them, especially in that foggy road. The policemen in the police car just shrugged it off and told him that it’s usual for cars to go crazy fast in that area.

A few minutes later, the police car in front of the transport vehicle suddenly disappeared. Martín tried communicating with them through the radio. At first, they responded, saying they were only 200 yards ahead. But Martín said to slow down because he couldn’t see them because of the thick fog, but no one replied.

That’s when Martín felt uneasy, suspecting that something was wrong. He radioed his speculations to his partner Montesino, and the latter didn’t think twice about going outside and checking what was happening. This is when everything starts to go crazy, and it’s for you to watch and find out what happens next.

When you watch this movie, make sure to have a stable and fast internet connection, like MetroNet, so you can really understand the story and enjoy the action and mystery of the movie.

Cast Performance

Overall, the cast’s performance was good. However, we found that Martín’s emotions could be better, especially during the last scenes of the movie. Other than that, the other actors’ performances were really great. This film showed the struggles of the police officers who are risking their lives every day to protect everyone. Moreover, it also shows how there are two kinds of prisoners: the ones who deserve a second chance and the ones who are beyond redemption.

Our Favorite Scene (SPOILER ALERT!)

The most striking scene for us is when all the police start to arrive at the location where Nano, Martín, and Miguel are. Miguel was desperate to know where Nano hid her daughter’s body, but Nano wouldn’t budge. However, Nano thought that he was already safe, so he said some words, cursing at Miguel, saying he would never tell him where he hid her daughter.

Since Martín has been stopping Miguel from hurting Nano, Martín couldn’t control his anger and frustration because of what Nano said, of course, thinking that he also has two daughters who might experience the same thing because of people like Nano. He went closer to Nano, commanding him to tell Miguel where he hid the body. Nano was begging Martín to stop, but Martín just kept asking him over and over again.

Our Rating: 7.5/10

It’s a good movie, so we’d definitely recommend you to watch it. It’s not as great as The Platform, if you’ve watched that, but its story is good enough to convey the message they’re trying to say. We hope this blog post has helped you decide whether or not to watch Below Zero. Happy watching!
