Who Will Portray Michael In the Movie?
It was announced that one of Jackson’s nephews, Jaafar Jackson, will portray the legendary artist in his feature film debut titled Michael.
Producer Graham King remarked on Jaafar’s selection following a global casting call:
“It was clear that he is the only person to take on this role”
The Oscar-winning producer said that he was astounded by how Jaafar naturally personifies Michael Jackson’s energy and charisma. Similarly, King felt delighted when Jaafar agreed to star in his late star uncle’s biopic.

Following Jaafar’s selection for Michael’s role, the casting members searched for a child actor who could portray the younger version of the pop musician.
Before his rise to prominence as the king of pop, Michael was one of the members of The Jackson 5. Since the movie will chronicle Michael’s early life, Lionsgate announced in January 2024 that they chose 9-year-old Juliano Krue Valdi to play a young version of Jackson.
Colman Domingo, a Rustin actor nominated for an Oscar, was cast as Joe Jackson, the patriarch of the Jackson family. Producer King says the actor has such incredible range, and he is grateful to be working with him on the movie.
Similarly, Antoine Fuqua has taken on the director role, with Dion Beebe looking after the cinematography. More information will follow when principal photography progresses.

When Is the MJ Biopic Releasing?
After the casting began in June 2022, the principal photography was supposed to start in June 2023 in Santa Barbara. Moreover, the production team estimated the crew wages and vendors cost around $120 million.
The 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike caused a postponement of the September 2023 filming schedule. Eventually, on January 22, 2024, filming got underway.
The movie titled Michael is scheduled to release on April 18, 2025. The story will follow him from his early years as the Jackson 5‘s star to his father, Joe Jackson‘s abuse.
The purchase of Neverland Valley and his smash song “Thriller” until his terrible and unexpected death on June 25, 2009, will also be featured in the movie.
