Born on June 20, 1985, Caroline Elizabeth Polachek is an American singer, producer, and songwriter. While attending the University of Colorado, she co-founded the indie pop group Chairlift with Aaron Pfenning. With the sleeper hit song Bruises, the duo broke onto the Brooklyn music scene in the late 2000s.

Unfortunately, Chairlift, the pop band, broke up in 2017, and Caroline Polachek officially started her solo career. She worked on solo projects such as Ramona Lisa and CEP while in the band. Every artist gets a certain type of inspiration from other artists. Just like that, let’s find out why Caroline idolizes Enya.

Caroline Was Set To Appear At Moogfest

After forming the band with musician Aaron Pfenning, the duo moved to New York. Polachek started studying art at New York University. Moreover, in early 2007 Patrick Wimberley joined the band, and together they released their first EP, Daylight Savings, followed by their debut album, Does You Inspire You

In 2010, Polachek joined Brooklyn-based Violens‘ Jorge Elbrecht to record sign (an anagram of the word ‘sing’) from Justin Bieber‘s Never Let You Go. Later, in 2011, she directed the band’s single It Couldn’t Be Perceived‘s music video. Moth, Chairlift’s third and final studio album, debuted on January 22, 2016.

Drawing the Target Around the Arrow, Polachek’s second solo studio album, was released in January 2017 under the name CEP. Despite the predominately male festival line-up, she was set to appear at Moogfest 2018 but canceled in December 2017 after the festival published a list of female musicians performing that year.

Named First On Pitchfork’s List

Ocean of Tears and Parachute, two songs from the project that Polachek released later in July 2019, served as a preview for her upcoming studio album Pang, which was released on October 18, 2019. Furthermore, she was announced as one of the opening artists for Dua Lipa‘s Future Nostalgia Tour in September 2021. The second single from Charli XCX’s studio album CrashNew Shapes, featuring Polachek, was made available on November 4, 2021.

After another joint effort, Polachek released Bunny Is A Rider on July 14, 2021. According to the singer’s interview with Crack magazine, it was named first on Pitchfork’s list of The 100 Best Songs of 2021. Then, she released the single Billions on February 9, 2022. In addition, she appeared on the Australian electronic music producer Flume‘s single Sirens. Finally, Polachek confirmed the release date of her second studio album, Desire, I Want to Turn Into You, under her full name on February 14, 2023.

Musical Aspiration Is Enya

Born to her father, James Montel Polachek, a financial markets analyst and classical musician, and her mother, Elizabeth Allan, Polachek was a young child when her family moved to Tokyo, Japan. She lived there until she was six years old. Later, they made their home in Greenwich, Connecticut, where Polachek began singing in the third grade.
